textile designer & weaver of furnishing & ecclesaistical fabrics

Evelyn Ross was a weave designer and hand weaver who worked mainly to commission for churches and cathedrals for 20 years, and also designed for a furnishings manufacturer for 4 years. During that period and since she taught weaving both at degree level and to small local groups.
Her handwoven silk vestments are to be found in Cathedrals at Winchester, Salisbury, Southwark and Guildford, in numerous churches in the UK, and with several bishops, including a former Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Church in USA, a former Archbishop of Canterbury and individual clergy.
She has also produced altar cloths and large hangings for churches in the UK, and acted as consultant on vestments to Coventry Cathedral. See the link to Hangings and Vestments for images of her work.
In 2006 she moved to Penryn where she taught weaving until she ceased a few years ago.

In 2018 she was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) for which there is no specific treatment or cure. Evelyn died of this underlying condition at the beginning of April 2020.

Her husband, Richard Hopper, is hopeful that, after a reasonable period, he will bring a record of her work to a wider audience at this same web address.
